The flight to Munich went extremely smooth. I LOVED the man sitting next to me! He was so nice!!! He was a German man in Boston for business. He works for a software company that is based in Nashua. His company is coming out with a new software which is why he needed to be in Nashua to get trained. He taught me how to use the TV on the planes and he told me to watch Avatar because he said he watched it on his way to the states from Germany and it was amazing. So I watched it and I liked it but it was a bit long. Then we talked about his kids and his wife and he showed me pictures of his two little boys and his wife. SO CUTE!
I slept for about 4 hours on the flight so it wasn’t too bad. The 7 ½ hours went by pretty fast. We landed in Munich and had to go straight to the gate for our connecting flight because we only had one hour in between landing and boarding for the next flight to Florence. By the time we got to the gate to get on our next flight everyone was exhausted. We all felt so gross from traveling and complained about wanting to take a shower. We were not happy campers.
The flight to Florence from Munich was horrible. The plane was teeny tiny and it was such a bumpy ride! I’m still a little sick from it. I got to read a good bit of The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis so that was good.
Once we landed in Florence we were even more exhausted and annoyed. Deep down inside we were all excited to finally be in Italy but we had been traveling for about 10 hours and it was just way too much for us. Gary Runn, Crusade staff member that now does full time ministry in Florence, met us at the airport to show us the way to our hotel. We took a bus into the city and then took another bus to some other stop and then walked 10 blocks to our hotel. Sigh. It was a lot… but we did it and now I’m here in my hotel room. I’m rooming with Brittany, Caleigh, and Kari. Our window in our room faces out onto a street so I tried peeking out and waving to people and saying boun giorno but all the Italians just looked at me like “dumb American”. LOL. Whateva.
Then I laid on my bed to take a half hour nap and that ended up turning into a 2 hour nap... LOL. I woke up, checked my phone, and it was 6:58 PM and we had to be downstairs and ready by 7:10PM for dinner. Oops! We were all asleep except for Kari but she was watching the Italian Job and had no idea what time it was either. Fortunately we got ready in time and once we were downstairs everyone was waiting. There were 4 girls in their early 20's it seemed that were "stinters" (people who are in an area for about 1-2 years to help start a spiritual movement). They took us to an Italian restaurant (DUH) and it was so cute! I ordered Spaghetti alla bolognese. It was so yummy. After that we went for some gelato and it was SOO GOOOD. I got limon and mango flavored gelato and man oh man was it deeeeee-lish.
On the way back to the hotel I screamed because Kari screamed because of the loud vespas. They have no mercy here for pedestrians. It's like Boston but WORSE.
During my quiet times with God he's definitely been telling me to not fear feeling insignificant. By insignificant I mean that I just feel like we're such a small group of people trying to start this big spiritual movement in a large city... how are we supposed to do that? And Crusade is depending on US to do it... So I've been reading 1 Samuel and today while reading 1 Samuel 18 God definitely kept trying to tell me with him I can win any battle because it's not mine to win... it's His. So I've been feeling a lot better about the whole thing. Watching the movie Avatar also made me think of the battle we're about to face. It's like we're the avatars feeling like we have little resources and only bows and arrows to go against big bombs but because we have God... (much like how the Avatars have that tree or goddess or whatever it was) we can win any battle. So that was also encouraging. God is so awesome like that!
Anyways, we need to be at breakfast tomorrow at 7:30AM.
